What does your company do and what kind of value does your company create?
Nordea is the leading financial services group in the Nordics with 200 years of experience in supporting and growing the Nordic and related economies. Our purpose is to help people achieve their dreams and make a positive contribution to society. We aim to make life easier, build trust and support our customers’ choices. As a long-term goal, we have set our sights on becoming climate neutral by 2050.
What motivated you to join GreenDice?
We appreciate the opportunity to extend the lifespan of Nordea’s devices and thereby support those who need them most. GreenDice gives old technology a new life, which aligns well with our ambition to use resources wisely. We believe GreenDice is a valuable partner with whom we can promote sustainability, support the circular economy and make a positive impact on the environment.
Have you implemented green and circular economy principles in your company and how?
Sustainability is one of Nordea’s strategic priorities. As the leading bank in the Nordics, we have the knowledge and resources to support the transition to a carbon-neutral economy. We contribute through both our operations and daily practices: reducing energy consumption, using office space efficiently and encouraging reuse and recycling. Our offices are equipped with motion-sensor lighting that adjusts to daylight levels and all lamps use LED bulbs. Since we do not have dedicated workplaces, employees switch off their computers and monitors at the end of the workday. Indoor temperatures are regulated by a smart heating system that responds to the outside climate. Offices are equipped with automated faucets and we use water dispensers connected to the main water system instead of buying bottled water. We sort waste daily and continuously strive to reduce our environmental footprint.
Why is it important for your company to contribute to the development of Estonia and the rest of society?
As a Nordic bank, we believe our role goes beyond providing financial services. We contribute to the Estonian economy as an employer and support the well-being of communities and families. Nordea, in cooperation with the Estonian Refugee Council, organizes fraud-prevention workshops for Ukrainian refugees and participates in humanitarian projects with the Estonian Red Cross and the Estonian Food Bank. Recently, we expanded our volunteering activities with a program where our employees teach financial knowledge and skills to children—from kindergarten through high school—as well as to adults. By contributing to Estonia’s development, we help strengthen the local economy. At the same time, we are committed to promoting financial literacy, raising awareness of fraud prevention and supporting sustainable development—so that society can thrive today and for future generations.
