What do our company do and what value do we create?
Scania is a world-leading provider of transport solutions. Together with our partners and customers we are driving the shift towards a sustainable transport system. In 2022, we delivered 80,238 trucks, 4,994 buses as well as 13,400 industrial and marine power systems to our customers globally.
To manifest our commitment and be transparent on progress, we have set science based carbon reduction targets (SBT), that commits us to reduce emissions at the scale and pace science dictates necessary to limit global warming. Our Science Based targets, first towards 2025 are clear and we are committed to deliver according to them.
What motivated us to join Greendice?
At Scania, we believe that being a sustainable business depends on adopting a more circular economic model, where the use of existing resources is maximised and waste is minimised all along the value chain. Therefor we want to ensure that also tools and equipment what we use on daily operations, can serve more and longer – in all operations starting from production and ending with use of sold products manufactured by Scania. We want to make less pressure on the planet, so that the footprint from our operations is reduced. We want to contribute not only to the second or prolonged life of products, but also to the wellbeing of other people in the terms we can. Our values align with the philosophy of Greendice, we support the idea of second life for devices and we are happy we can contribute to this movement.
How have we applied the principles of green and circular economy in the company?
Circular business aligns with our core value, elimination of waste, as well as our lean production system and our modularisation approach. For Scania, circularity involves every aspect of our business. It challenges us to rethink not just how we design and manufacture products, our impact and knowledge of the value chain, but also how we develop business models and provide value for our customers. This includes exploring new business models, working with our supply chain, extending the life of our products, optimising the use of resources and energy, maintaining product value as high as possible, remanufacturing spare parts and promoting reuse of components and recycling at the end-of-life product phase. As we move into an electrified transport system, we are also exploring business opportunities around second life applications, recycling and reusing batteries and raw materials.
Why is it important for you to contribute to the development of Estonia and other societies?
No man is an island and we don’t live in separate silos. In Scania we feel responsible for the wellbeing of people and for us People Sustainability is about putting people and society at the centre of everything we do. Wherever we operate in the world, Scania’s and our employees are passionate about making a contribution to society. A sustainable transport system keeps goods and people moving efficiently, without jeopardising human health, safety, or the environment, and that is available to all.
