What does your company do and what kind of value does it create?
AS Tallink Grupp is one of the leading providers of passenger and freight transportation services in the Baltic Sea. The company’s ships sail between Estonia, Finland, and Sweden, connecting the shores and people of the Baltic Sea region. In addition to maritime transport, Tallink Grupp is involved in the short- and long-term chartering of ships. The company also operates four hotels in Tallinn and Riga, the NOK NOK restaurant in Tallinn, and runs a successful travel retail business with shops on board its ships and on land. Tallink owns dozens of Burger King restaurants across Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as the Burger King© franchise in the Baltic States belongs to Tallink.
What motivated you to join GreenDice?
Tallink continuously invests in reducing its environmental impact – sustainability is not a trend for the us, but a natural part of our everyday business. This commitment is evident in our ongoing efforts to enhance the energy efficiency of our ships, as well as in regular ship maintenance, which keeps our fleet in top condition and safe for sea travel. We pay attention to the sustainable use of resources from smart menu planning in our restaurants to recycling hotel furniture. Therefore, it was a natural step for us to start cooperating with GreenDice, which helps us find new uses for our electronic devices in a systematic and socially impactful way.
Have you implemented green and circular economy principles in your company and how?
Making our ships more sustainable and reducing emissions is part of Tallink’s daily routine. In 2026, our shuttle vessels are expected to switch to renewable fuel. For years, our ships have used shore power instead of fuel when in port. All Tallink hotels are also committed to environmental principles, this is confirmed by their GreenKey certification. Additionally, we are constantly seeking meaningful collaborations to help us recycle materials that have reached the end of their life cycle – for example, hotel bed linens and other textiles are valuable materials for students at the Estonian Academy of Arts, and furniture in good condition has found a new life in care institutions across Estonia.
Why is it important for your company to contribute to the development of Estonia and the rest of society?
Although Tallink Grupp is an international company, our roots keep us closely intertwined with the Estonian economy and society. Our success goes hand in hand with Estonia’s development and depends on the strength of local communities, the quality of education, and the skill level of the workforce. As the leading shipping company in the Baltic Sea, we have a significant impact, so it is only natural that we also bear broader social responsibilities.
