Estonian Ski Association

What does your company do and what value are you creating today?

Estonian Ski Association (Eesti Suusaliit MTÜ) is a voluntary association of clubs that gathers winter sports clubs operating in Estonia. We deal with the management and administration of a different sports (cross-country skiing, dual competition, ski jumping, snowboarding, freestyle, alpine skiing) in Estonia, and we are the representatives of these sports in the international sports federation. Our statutory purpose is to promote, develop and support the development of sports from primary education and children to adults and elite sports. We stand for winter sports and active lifestyles and want to ensure the continuity of our sports over time.

What motivated you to join GreenDice?

As a winter sports organization, climate change is a very painful issue for us and we are an active party in the fight against the warming of our climate and for the preservation of winters. Since we are a budget organization, we do not have the power and ability to contribute financially to large projects, but we can look at the behavior/activities of our organization and members and try to be greener here. Although our equipment fleet is small, I personally believe that even small things count, and since we are just about to replace our computer fleet, it seemed like the best moment to review our activities. I happened to hear about GreenDice and it really appealed to me and I thought that the Estonian Ski Association should be part of it.

Have you implemented green and circular economy principles in your company and how?

So far, the previous leaders have not paid much attention to this, but we want to change that and start applying the principles more.

Why is it important for you to contribute to the development of Estonia and the rest of society?

Estonian sport and culture are of existential significance for us as an organization, and that is why we ourselves must be active contributors, role models and leaders in their development. Every year we carry out projects where we provide basic skiing lessons in kindergartens and schools, and we have donated a large amount of ski sets to rural areas so that children can be active in winter.
