kood/Jõhvi

kood/Jõhvi

What does your company do and what value do you create today?

kood/Jõhvi is an innovative program for adults that offers a 21st century approach to learning programming to reduce the shortage of software developers and to enable people from other fields to have new and interesting opportunities in life.

code/Jõhvi is based on a computer-based self-learning methodology. That means no classes, no teachers, no tuition. As a first step, applicants must complete a cognitive online test on the school’s website, after which successful applicants will be invited to the next round – a three-week to an on-site intensive programming camp. The best ones have the opportunity to participate in the school’s teaching for the following 2 years.

What motivated you to join GreenDice?

Joining GreenDice resulted from our status – we are a start-up company that wants to implement green and circular economy principles in its activities from day one. Since our technical park is typically very large for an IT school, in cooperation with Greendice we would like to use this large artillery force for its intended purpose.
Also important are GreenDice’s strong connections and projects in schools that spread technology skills. Both code/Jõhvi and GreenDice work towards a similar goal – to make the skills of the future (technology) available to everyone.

Have you implemented green and circular economy principles in the company and how?

At the moment, no major projects and undertakings have been started, but this will hopefully change in cooperation with GreenDice. In terms of mentality, the whole team is ready to contribute to the most efficient functioning of the principles of green and circular economy.

Why is it important for you to contribute primarily to the development of Estonia and other societies?

The original idea of the school came from the founders of the school, who found that establishing code/Jõhvi is one possible step to contribute to the development of Estonia. The goal was to solve the IT talent shortage and make technology skills available to everyone. We are currently moving in the right direction, and the code/Jõhvi’s ability to contribute even more back to society is also developing year by year. In our case, mainly through strong IT talents and creating a network.
